Enjoy life out on the open water with Sanlorenzo's SL96 Asymmetrical superyacht

Based on Italian yard Sanlorenzo's widely successful platform, the SL96 Asymmetric superyacht is designed to offer her owners a new way of living out on the open water, with a better connection to their surroundings. An ideal superyacht for both new and experienced yacht owners, the SL96 continues on from her larger sister SL102's asymmetrical yacht concept and is part of the yard's SL range of planing yachts.

Measuring 29.1 metres in length, she enjoyed her world premiere at the Boot Düsseldorf 2020 trade show. The asymmetrical design of the SL96 is the result of a collaboration between several different creative minds, including American car designer and former BMW chief Chris Bangle, Italian designer Bernardo Zuccon from Zuccon International Project, as well as Sanlorenzo’s in-house team of designers and technicians. The unique, asymmetrical configuration of the SL96 allowed the team to restructure the traditional layout of a superyacht in a way that maximises internal and external volumes. Redefining onboard living scenarios and how guests interact with the sea, she only retains side decks on her starboard side.

By removing the port side gangway and side decks, designers gained an additional ten square metres of interior space in her main saloon, offering more room and flexibility in layout while improving the overall lightness of her interiors. With a modern, light, and airy interior design by Laura Sessa, her future owners can customise her interior decor to their own liking and taste.

To further enhance the feeling of openness and guests' connection to the surroundings, Sanlorenzo engineered electrically operated sliding panels in the bulwark on port, resulting in an unobstructed picture window next to a long dining table that can accommodate between eight to ten guests. However, to ensure that the crew still retains free access across the main deck and flybridge, her layout includes a crew walkway to port that exits the cockpit via stairs and goes up one level, passes across the bridge, and then comes down on the foredeck, having little impact on overall operations. In addition, the lack of a side deck on the main deck also means the master stateroom located forward has complete privacy to port as well as more space. Spanning two levels, the owners can enjoy a large bathroom and sleeping area on the main deck and a dressing area on the lower deck. A pantograph door leads to the starboard side deck and a lounge area forward, which can be made completely private for her owners with the addition of a door to close off access to the forward deck.

Her flybridge also incorporates the asymmetric feel, which covers the side deck below. Two side decks lead forward from her bridge deck, with the port side designed for the crew to transit from the cockpit to the bow via the forward stairs. Her unique design also utilises the external handrails on the flybridge to enclose the sunbathing area on the roof of the superstructure at the bow. With plenty of space outdoors for alfresco dining and sunbathing, her indoor and outdoor social areas are ideal for entertaining, socialising, and leisure.

Able to accommodate up to eight guests in four staterooms, this includes the master stateroom on the main deck. Three additional staterooms, one VIP, and two configurable staterooms are located on the lower deck, complete with ensuite bathrooms. Powered by twin MTU 12V 2000 M96L diesel engines with 1,947 hp each, the SL96 superyacht has an impressive top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots, with electric zero-speed stabilisers ensuring the comfort of her guests.
