Karen Overend is a commercial partner with Duncan Cotterill, specialising in construction, architecture and property.  Karen has over 16 years’ experience, and has been involved in property development and construction projects in New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, the UK and Dubai, ranging from large scale commercial, industrial, healthcare, leisure and retail developments through to residential apartments and subdivisions.

Half of Karen’s career has been in senior legal roles in-house, both in New Zealand and Dubai, including General Counsel roles with property developers and infrastructure companies.  This has equipped Karen with not only extensive contract negotiation experience, but with experience working on projects directly alongside engineers and project managers.  This means that she understands the commercial and practical issues relating to a project, as well as the technical legal issues.
