Derek Luxford is a Partner of Hicksons in Sydney, Australia where he heads the firm’s Transport, Trade & Energy practice.  Derek joined Hicksons in 2004 after spending 21 years with another Australian firm.  Derek acquired his interest in shipping law while working in London in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.  Derek has an extensive practice for Australian and overseas clients in all areas of shipping, international trade and marine insurance and is one of Australia’s most highly regarded shipping lawyers.  Derek is actively involved in many shipping professional and industry associations including the International Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand and the Average Adjusters Association.  Derek is a regular speaker at industry functions and contributes to a wide range of professional and industry publications.  He is on the editorial board of Maritime Risk International based in London.  Derek is actively involved in maritime arbitration and mediation.
